The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department initiated an investigation after all four suspension ropes of a lift at a residential building in Sham Shui Po snapped on Sunday, luckily no injuries were reported.
The department said they were alerted of the incident that happened around 3 pm yesterday at Ka On Building on Poplar Street, Sham Shui Po.
Initial investigation found that the drive machine of the lift was dislocated and all four suspension ropes were broken. The safety gear kicked in and stopped the lift below the 1/F landing.
The department noted that the lift was installed in 1979 and is maintained by Holake Hong Kong Lifts Ltd. The maintenance contractor is required to submit an incident report within seven working days.
The investigation of the cause of the incident is on-going, the department added.
