Over 80 evacuated from youth hostel over Temple Street fire

Over 80 residents from a youth hostel at Temple Street were evacuated early Wednesday after a fire broke out at a ground-floor shop.

The blaze broke out at around 2.56 am this morning as police received multiple reports saying that there was a fire at a ground-floor shop on 56 Temple Street.

Smoke can be spotted billowing out of the shop, while several explosions were also heard.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the fire mobilizing one breathing-apparatus team and one water jet.

No injuries were reported and 84 residents of the youth hostel were safely evacuated.

Fire officials said their investigation believed that a short wire had caused the fire at the shop, which stored hookah pipes and compressed air cylinders.
