Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced on Tuesday that the National Day fireworks display will be held once again on October 1 after a five-year suspension.

Speaking ahead of his weekly Executive Council meeting which resumed today after a nearly two-month recess, the Hong Kong leader said a series of celebrations and promotions will also be launched to spice up Hong Kong’s nightlife.
"There will be extensive participation. For example, many shopping malls will be extending their operating hours and providing various concessions and coupons so as to bring vibrancy to our night market or night economy," said Lee.
He added that more details are expected to be announced next week.
