A group of rats gathered outside a frozen meat store in Tsz Wan Shan and enjoyed a feast – tasting frozen chickens placed in the baskets that were left on the street overnight.
The photos were uploaded to Facebook and soon drew the attention from netizens and residents living there.
The frozen chickens were placed in the baskets in front of the door of the frozen meat store. With the closed gate of the shop, it is assumed that the chickens were just left there awaiting staffers to collect when they open the shop in the morning.
Yet around 10 mice could be spotted on top of the baskets and tasting the chickens as if they were having a feast.
Many were terrified by the photos, saying that some of the mice were probably as large as a cat. A netizen jokingly said why would the mice take "rat poison" with all the meat just laid there up for grabs.
The shop later apologized on social media and said all the frozen chickens involved in the incident have disposed of. The shop also said customers could ask for a refund if there is anything wrong with the ones they have purchased.
Some netizens pointed out that it is not the first time similar incident took place. They added transport workers usually just place the frozen meat on the street and leave it there overnight until the shop collects the meat when it opens in the morning.
Around 4pm on Saturday, staffers from Food and Environmental Hygiene Department were mobilized to the scene to inspect the environment of the shop.
However staffers only reminded the shopkeeper to keep the baskets within the store and not to occupy any public area. They didn't take away any meat for further food safety examination.
