Hong Kong recorded a fiscal deficit of HK$115.9 billion in the first four months of the current financial year ended July 31, narrowing from a HK$135.4 billion deficit a year earlier, the government said on Friday.
Total expenditure during the period amounted to HK$253.7 billion, while revenue stood at HK$112.3 billion.

After taking into account HK$52.2 billion received from the issuance of government bonds and the repayment of HK$26.7 billion principal, the government booked the HK$115.9 billion deficit.
A government spokesperson said that the deficit for the period was mainly due to the fact that some major types of revenue including salaries and profits taxes, are mostly received towards the end of a financial year.
The fiscal reserves stood at HK$538.4 billion as at July 31, 2025.
