AI is an extremely complex system, with NVIDIA’s chips serving only as the foundational layer, Huang told the CCTV. He pointed out that on top of the hardware lies software systems, networking technologies, algorithms, and applications — layers where innovation is crucial.
Huang commended Chinese AI firm DeepSeek, saying its model redesigns many aspects of how AI operates, fully leveraging the architecture of Nvidia’s H20 chip.
Even though it’s built on the H20, which is not Nvidia's best chip, DeepSeek has achieved world-class results — a very creative approach, he said.
He expressed optimism about China’s innovation, stating that the pace of innovation in the country cannot be stopped, and that the chipmaker is eager to contribute meaningfully to that progress.
China, Huang noted, operates one of the world’s most advanced and complex supply chain ecosystems, with a scale and diversity that he called a world-class miracle.
He acknowledged that if Nvidia did not serve the Chinese market, other innovators and chipmakers in China would. Many local cloud service providers are already developing their own chips, he said, adding that the country is home to many innovative companies, including Huawei.
Huang said Huawei is the chipmaker’s competitor, but it can still admire and respect its competitors.
A rival is not an enemy, he added.
