A star-studded luncheon was held yesterday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Eastweek magazine.
Government officials, including Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, business leaders and celebrities attended the luncheon at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong in Admiralty.
Lee arrived at 1 pm yesterday and visited the exhibition area of the magazine's work accompanied by Sing Tao News Corp chairman Karson Choi Ka-tsan and chief executive Cai Jin.
Lee said he appreciates the Eastweek's reporting on some serious news, which was interesting and impressive.
An award ceremony of the Hong Kong Classic Brand Awards 2023 organized by Eastweek was also held during the luncheon.
Lee attended the ceremony as the guest of honor, while Legislative Council president Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak Mei-kuen and Executive Councillor Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung also served as prize presenters.
Nineteen local enterprises, including the Hong Kong and China Gas Co, received the award.
In a speech, Lee said Eastweek has been providing readers with news reports, commentary and entertainment over the years and keeping pace with the times.
"I appreciate that the Eastweek reports local news and analyzes global affairs in an interesting way, making it easier for readers to understand the issues and get interested," he said.
Lee added that the magazine also publishes in-depth reports on social issues and government officials can have a better understanding of the public's view on government policies by reading the magazine.
"As a reader of Eastweek, I hope the magazine will continue to uphold its professional spirit and provide diverse and wonderful information for readers," he said.
He also congratulated the 19 enterprises for winning the award, as the companies have shown the unlimited creativity, diligence and perseverance of the SAR's business sector.
The companies have also catered to the constantly changing needs of the market in a flexible manner and provided high-quality services and products to people, he said.
Lee said the social and economic activities have fully resumed normality and the Hong Kong economy continued to recover in the first half of this year.
He said the government has met the public recently before the policy address next month and welcomed the public to provide more constructive advice to the authorities.
