A private car strayed onto Light Rail tracks near Hung Shui Kiu on Wednesday night (Feb 25), traveling about 100 meters along the rails before exiting.
Videos circulating online show the car entering the track area at the junction of Castle Peak Road and Hung Shui Kiu Main Street at around 8pm. The vehicle is seen jolting over ballast stones as it moves unsteadily along the rails.
A Light Rail train is visible ahead, stopped on the tracks, apparently to avoid a collision. In another clip, the car continues along the track before leaving near a junction outside a car park on Hung Yuen Road.
According to the person who filmed the incident, the driver may have entered the tracks in confusion after allegedly running a red light. Some online commenters described the scene as alarming, citing the risk of a head-on crash.
The MTR Corporation said its Light Rail control center detected the incident at about 8pm and instructed nearby trains to halt briefly. The car left the tracks on its own after about one minute, and services were not affected.
The operator has reported the incident to police, and investigations are ongoing.
