Thousands of residents and visitors arrived early along the Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai waterfronts to claim the best viewing positions for Wednesday night’s Lunar New Year fireworks display, turning both shores into packed gathering spots hours ahead of the 8 pm show.

The 23-minute extravaganza, themed “Prosperity Gallops Across Hong Kong” and sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, will launch 31,888 shells into the night sky on the second day of the Year of the Horse, bringing festive cheers to the city and tourists alike.
