CLP Power Hong Kong expressed confidence in meeting the power demand of the Northern Metropolis over the next decade with its three new substations built in Ho To West, Kwu Tung North and Ma Sik Road.
The three substations have been in operation since 2024 and can support an electricity demand equivalent to that of four to five Hong Kong Science Parks at present.

CLP noted that the substations adopt a full underground cable design to reduce the impact of severe weather on power supply stability, and each power supply point is equipped with a backup power source to avoid service disruptions caused by single-point failures.
CLP stated that the electricity demand in the Northern Metropolis is diverse, with particularly high consumption from data centers and supercomputing centers.
They have closely communicated with the government and center operators to tailor short- and medium-term power supply solutions for these specific needs. The company also regularly reviews the electricity demands related to the region’s development and implements required grid expansion projects.
CLP stressed that it has been prudent in cost control, adopts a diversified fuel mix and applies innovative technologies to maintain reasonable pricing. All capital expenditures will be discussed with and approved by the government through a five-year development plan.
