Around 11.38 million passengers are expected to traverse Hong Kong’s control points during the upcoming Chinese New Year festive period, according to the Immigration Department.
Spanning from February 14 to 23, this holiday period is projected to see an estimated 9.52 million passengers passing through land boundary control points.
The busiest day for outbound travel is forecast to be February 14, with approximately 636,000 departures.
The inbound peak is expected on February 22, when about 663,000 travellers return to Hong Kong.
Heavy traffic is expected at key checkpoints such as Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point and the Shenzhen Bay Control Point, with a daily average forecast of about 200, 000, 187,000 and 156,000 passengers respectively.
To alleviate traveller flows, the ImmD will deploy additional staff and increase the number of inspection counters and channels.
A joint command centre will be set up at Lo Wu Control Point, bringing together the Hong Kong Police Force, the Customs and Excise Department and the MTR Corporation Limited to ensure smooth passenger traffic flow in coordination with mainland authorities.
Notably, all boundary control points will maintain their existing operating hours during this Chinese New Year holiday, with Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge(HZMB) ports operating 24 hours as usual.
Travellers are advised to plan their trips in advance, avoid travel during busy periods, and stay tuned to radio or television broadcasts for the latest traffic updates.
Additionally, the “Easy Boundary” platform will provide a one-stop resource for immigration clearance information, offering average waiting times at various land boundary control points for all travellers.
