HKJC observes minute of silence, donates $70.2m closed-door race meeting income to support victims

The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced that HK$70.2 million including all gross income from the race meeting on Sunday would be donated to the government’s Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po.

The Club held silence for a minute on Sunday’s race meeting at Sha Tin Racecourse which was held behind closed doors to extend its condolences to the those who have suffered from injury and loss in Tai Po fire.

A donation of HK$100 million was made by the Club earlier on Thursday through its Jockey Club Emergency Relief Fund to provide for the immediate needs of families of the deceased and those most directly affected. 

Altogether, the Club has contributed a total of HK$170.2 million in support.

The Club extended its deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones and sympathies to those who have suffered injury and loss as a result of the fire.

It also promised to continue to work closely with relevant government departments and non-governmental organisations.
