The Water Supplies Department (WSD) has initiated testing of water samples from affected households following reports from residents in Taikoo Shing about the presence of black particles in their drinking water.
On Saturday, numerous residents began sharing their experiences on social media about their tap filters turning dark and expressing significant concern regarding the accumulation of black particulate matter in their water supply.
Some residents claimed their filters turned black after just one afternoon, prompting fears about water safety and the water quality of their drinking water.

In response to the concerns, WSD has dispatched water tankers to the area, with many residents lining up outside the EAST Hotel to collect water.
A resident surnamed Cheung said he saw black impurities in his drinking water and noted similar black particles in both bathroom and kitchen taps. Concerned about safety, he opted to buy bottled water for drinking and cooking instead.
Another resident from Yuan Kung Mansion, Chan, noticed a drop in water pressure while showering around 9pm on Saturday (Nov 15), followed by a lack of hot water. Initially suspecting a malfunction in her water heater, she later learned that many neighbors had encountered similar issues.
WSD stated that staff members have been dispatched to investigate the issue after receiving reports from the Taikoo Shing management office. Water samples have been collected from the affected households and the internal supply systems of the buildings, including both rooftop and underground water tanks, for analysis.
According to past experience, the black particles may be bitumen used for pipe coatings, it added.
The department implemented a temporary diversion of the water supply near Taikoo Shing on Saturday night to facilitate pipe repairs, which likely disturbed sediment within the pipes due to changes in water pressure.
During inspections, WSD staff identified a damaged filtering device at the estate's water intake points, which may have allowed small amounts of sediment to enter the municipal water pipes, resulting in the particles in the water supply for some residents.
It added that regular inspections revealed no abnormalities during the last assessment conducted on November 3. The damage component was repaired, and the department has increased the flushing of the affected pipes.
WSD has advised residents to allow their tap water to run for a brief period, particularly if the water has been stagnant within the pipes, to ensure clarity prior to use.
