Hong Kong’s senior men’s basketball team surged to a convincing 83-64 victory over Jiangsu in the 15th National Games’ 9th-to-11th-place bracket on Monday, riding a blistering 49 percent shooting night and a 43 percent mark from beyond the arc to pull away in the second half.
The opening half stayed tight, with the teams trading blows until Hong Kong carried a slim 41-40 edge into the break.
Captain Duncan Reid ignited the offense with a game-high 19 points, while guard Tsai Choi-kwan drained 18, including three of five from deep.
By the end of the third quarter, Hong Kong had stretched the margin to eight.
The final frame belonged entirely to the home side, as Jiangsu’s center Jiang Haoran managed a match-best 20 points but found no support against Hong Kong’s relentless accuracy.
The lead ballooned to 19 by the buzzer, sealing the emphatic win. Tomorrow, Hong Kong faces Jilin in its second placement-round contest.
