Hong Kong boosted its medal tally at the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities with two golds, one silver, and one bronze in swimming and table tennis on Tuesday morning, earning the athletes a combined HK$1.71 million in cash awards from the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
The outstanding performance came in XD14 mixed doubles table tennis, where Wong Hon-lam and Winnie Pang Wing-ka beat Jiangsu to claim Hong Kong’s first para table tennis gold of the Games and a HK$375,000 team prize.
Pang, who has congenital cerebral palsy affecting her right side, balances intense training with university studies and is also a recipient of the Jockey Club’s Striding On Scholarship.
In the pool, Lau Chiu-yee took gold in the Women’s S14 200m freestyle and will receive HK$187,500, while teammate Chan Yui-lam, who earned silver in the same event, will receive HK$93,750.
Ng Cheuk-yan added bronze in the Women’s SM7 200m individual medley for HK$37,500.
Hong Kong athletes winning medals at the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities are eligible for incentive awards under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme. Gold, silver, and bronze medalists in individual events will be awarded HK$187,500, HK$93,750, and HK$37,500 respectively, while team event medalists will be awarded HK$375,000, HK$187,500, and HK$75,000 for gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively.
The Jockey Club has pledged over HK$500 million to support the Games across Hong Kong and Guangdong, including volunteer programs and free tickets for underprivileged groups and schools.
Around 100 club volunteers are assisting at venues in the Hong Kong competition region.
