A man in Aberdeen was cheated out of thousands of dollars in an unusual online scam involving the sale of a gaming account.
Police received a report around 10:55pm on Monday after the victim's father alerted authorities about the suspected fraud at Pik Wai House of Shek Pai Wan Estate.
The victim had been negotiating the sale of a gaming account online when the buyer requested the seller to transfer money first to complete the transaction. After complying with the request, the buyer then claimed additional payment was needed to finalize the deal.
The victim became suspicious and reported the incident to his father, who subsequently contacted police. Officers took the victim to the police station for further investigation.
The case has been classified as fraud with no arrests made so far. Initial investigation suggests the victim lost several thousand Hong Kong dollars in the scam.
