Police have arrested 11 people during a five-day operation targeting drink and drug driving in New Territories South, seizing approximately HK$440,000 worth of cannabis.
The operation, conducted by the South New Territories Traffic Department from October 22-23 and during Halloween period (October 24, 26, 29-31), involved setting up checkpoints on major roads and conducting random breath tests.
Officers arrested 10 local men aged between 28 and 62, and one 34-year-old local woman for various offenses including trafficking in dangerous drugs, drug driving, drink driving, refusing to provide blood samples, driving while disqualified, and driving without third-party insurance.
Police confiscated approximately 3.5 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of HK$440,000. Three suspected modified vehicles were also impounded for further examination.
Authorities warned that both drink driving and drug driving are serious offenses carrying heavy fines and potential imprisonment. Police pledged to continue regular enforcement operations across different districts to ensure road safety.
