The incident unfolded around 2pm today on Paterson Street, directly opposite a petrol station, when the unattended vehicle suddenly caught fire.
Eyewitnesses noticed the fire spreading rapidly through the truck's cargo hold, which was packed with wooden furniture, and alerted the authorities immediately.
Emergency crew arrived promptly, deploying a water jet and a breathing apparatus team to douse the flames, extinguishing the flames within a short time.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
In response to the emergency, transportation officials closed off Paterson Street in both directions between Gloucester Road and Kingston Street to manage the chaos and ensure public safety. The chaos caused traffic to become congested at the site.
No one was harmed in the event, and the road is expected to reopen once the site is cleared and deemed safe.
