A local YouTuber was arrested after a viral video showed him grabbing a woman from behind and dragging her through the crowded streets of Causeway Bay.
The incident reportedly occurred on Paterson Street around 9.30pm on Sunday (Sep 28), when police received a report about a 42-year-old man surnamed Mok who unexpectedly tightly embraced a 41-year-old Chinese woman from behind.
The approximately 54-second video captures Mok, wearing a purple t-shirt, clutching a woman in a white shirt from behind, with one hand appearing to touch her chest area.
“Be my girlfriend; I really fancy you,” the man is heard saying during the incident.
“I don’t know you!” she shouted as she cried for help, struggling to break free while being dragged approximately 10 meters along the busy street.
Several bystanders intervened, shouting, "Calm down, let go first!" which prompted Mok to release his grip.
The victim later shared her experience on social media, explaining she was heading to a supermarket when the attack occurred.
She expressed gratitude toward the bystanders who helped her, particularly the four foreigners who stayed with her until police arrived.
"No matter where you are, always be aware of your surroundings," she warned, urging others to seek help immediately when in danger.
The case sparked widespread online discussion, with many expressing shock at the assault occurring in a public space and calling for appropriate consequences for Mok.
While some speculated about Mok's mental state, others uncovered his YouTube channel, launched in June 2024, which features nine videos primarily focusing on female cosplayers and showgirls.
The channel's description reads "Photography is Life," and his most recent vlog, published two days before the incident, was titled "Sleeping on the street during T8 storm signal."
Several commenters revealed having met Mok at an event, pointing out that the angles of his footage were inappropriate.
In response to Sing Tao Daily, the sister publication of The Standard, police confirmed that Mok was arrested at the scene following the report.
The case has been classified as an alleged indecent assault, and an investigation by the Wan Chai police district is underway.
