The victim, Ali, a Hong Kong ID holder of Pakistani descent, was working as a food delivery rider to support his new family.
Described by relatives as a "gentle, honest, and good man," he was known to be a cautious and experienced driver with over a decade of riding experience.
The incident occurred near Ping Shek Estate at around 8.38pm, when Ali’s motorcycle reportedly switched lanes and collided with a KMB bus. After falling to the ground, he was run over by a second bus driven by a 58-year-old Lam, who has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
Ali sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at United Christian Hospital at 9.12pm.
His uncle told reporters that Ali was always safety-conscious on the road and that the family could not understand how the accident happened. His younger sister shared that her brother had frequently visited Hong Kong over the past two years before settling here permanently following his marriage just weeks ago.
“He had been driving for more than ten years back in his hometown and was always very steady behind the wheel,” she said tearfully.
The family is now appealing for information and hoping to obtain bus camera footage to clarify the sequence of events.
The case is being handled by the East Kowloon Traffic Accident Investigation Team. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and assist the investigation.
