A heartwarming scene of an MTR staff member assisting an elderly passenger on an escalator was recently captured by a bystander, earning praise from the online community.
In a post on the social media platform Threads, a video showed the staff supporting an elderly person from behind as they ascended the escalator.
The poster recounted several instances of staff members stepping in to help elderly individuals, pregnant mothers, and individuals with canes who appeared to struggle with the escalator.
The poster expressed admiration for their watchful gaze, which ensured the safety of those in need and helped prevent potential falls.
Notably, the staff will return to their position after assisting passengers on the escalator.
Although it may seem like a small act, the poster encouraged the public to applaud for their spirit in offering assistance with diligence, adding hashtags such as "Good deeds in Hong Kong," "Heartwarming moments," and "MTR".
The post has won praise for the staff member's action, with a commenter recalling a similar experience at Po Lam Station, where a youngster helped a middle-aged man with luggage.
MTR had previously introduced two new roles: "Temporary Escalator Safety Assistant" and "Temporary Escalator Safety Supervisor."
These positions are primarily tasked with guiding passengers on safe escalator usage, recording usage patterns, maintaining crowd control, and conducting surveys, while the supervisor is also responsible for overseeing assistants, scheduling shifts, and managing administrative tasks.
