As the Light Public Housing (LPH) in Ngau Tau Kok nears completion, several eager applicants caught a glimpse of the site on Choi Hing Road and shared their firsthand experiences of the review process.

An applicant recently uploaded a photo of the nearly finished building with the construction fence removed, mentioning that he passed the preliminary vetting but has not yet received a result letter after an interview on April 8.

One applicant reported that their application had been under review since early April, while another was assured they would receive a confirmation letter in June, following an interview in April.

The applicant noted that the duration of the review process depends on the applicant's points.

Another online user recounted being informed they would receive house keys by the end of June, but a follow-up phone call revealed that only the confirmation letter would be issued by then, with keys to be collected as early as July.

The LPH project aims to construct about 30,000 units on government and private land over the next five years to fill the short-term gap in public housing and improve living conditions as quickly as possible.

LPH primarily caters to applicants who have been on the waiting list for traditional public rental housing for three years or more, with priority given to family applicants.

The first phase of applications for LPH started on June 24, 2024, covering two projects in Yuen Long and Ngau Tau Kok, which will provide around 4,440 units.

The second phase, which began accepting applications on February 24, 2025, includes four projects at Olympic Avenue, Tsing Fuk Lane (Tuen Mun Area 3A), Shun On Road (renovated from school premises) and Choi Yuen Road (renovated from school premises), offering approximately 5,060 units, with occupancy expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2025.
