The late veteran actor Benz Hui revealed his kidney cancer diagnosis and surgery experience in his final television interview, scheduled for broadcast Tuesday on RTHK TV 31's "Doctors and You - Eat Well 2."
Hui disclosed that he discovered abnormal dark urine last year, initially dismissing it as internal heat before medical checks revealed a kidney tumor. Following his wife's urging, he underwent comprehensive examinations that confirmed the diagnosis.
The actor underwent kidney removal surgery after doctors confirmed the cancer hadn't spread. He recalled being able to walk the day after surgery, joking with his doctor about the medical team's skill.
Hui maintained his characteristic humor throughout the health crisis, telling the program: "It didn't affect my mood! I treated it like filming a movie." He expressed complete trust in his doctors' professional judgment.
Professor Desmond Yip, who appeared alongside Hui, used the opportunity to remind single-kidney individuals about monitoring sodium intake, blood pressure and proteinuria. The interview showcases Hui's resilience and optimism when confronting serious illness.
