Former Hong Kong entertainer Tommy Yuen Man-on was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly shoplifting approximately HK$140 worth of goods from a To Kwa Wan supermarket.
The 45-year-old singer, once a member of the boy band E-Kids, faces one count of theft and is scheduled to appear at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts on July 9.
The incident occurred around 5pm on June 18 when police officers on anti-crime patrol noticed suspicious activity at a supermarket on Ma Tau Kok Road.
Authorities allege Yuen attempted to leave the store with 11 unpaid items, including soft drinks, tea beverages, snacks, and Japanese-style peanuts.
Officers also discovered another individual's credit card in his possession, which was later returned to its owner after verification.
Yuen was released on bail around 4am today, and in a Facebook post, the former celebrity appeared to reference the incident, advising followers to "always keep receipts" regardless of purchase amount.
He accompanied the message with a photo of snacks and stated a friend had come to the station to clarify the credit card matter, apologizing for the trouble.
He also added that next time when people forget something, they should not tell him to hold on to it, as it could lead to a big issue.
