Tommy Yuen faces arrest warrant for missing court appearance

A warrant for the arrest of local artist Tommy Yuen Man-on was issued after he failed to appear in court for charges of shoplifting at a supermarket in To Kwa Wan.

The case was mentioned at Kowloon City Magistrates' Court this morning, where Magistrate Philip Chan-Chee Fai issued the arrest warrant as neither Yuen nor his attorney was present.

Additionally, the magistrate raised the defendant's bail to HK$3,000.

The 45-year-old defendant, who claims to be unemployed, is accused of stealing two bottles of tea, three bottles of Coke, one bottle of water, two packets of candy, one tube of potato chips, one box of cookies, and one packet of peanuts, totalling HK$144.5, from the Wellcome supermarket chain on Ma Tau Kok Road around 5pm on June 18. 

Following his arrest, Yuen was granted bail in the early hours of June 19 on a HK$500 bail pending the court hearing.

Yuen has taken to social media to clarify himself after the arrest on June 19, advising his fans to keep the receipt and apologized for the trouble. (Read more: Tommy Yuen breaks silence after shoplifting arrest)
