Huawei's Mate XT, iPhone 16 set to hit market

Huawei is expected to unveil its first tri-fold handset at an event tomorrow after getting over 2 million pre-orders over the weekend.

The Mate XT is expected to come in red and black.

Its prices and detailed features will likely be revealed at the launch and the handset will go on sale on September 20.

Meanwhile, Apple will unveil its latest iPhone 16 with an A18 chip today in the US at 11pm Eastern time.

The phone been developed using SoftBank-owned Arm's newest V9 chip design, according to the Financial Times.

Apple signed a deal with Arm in September last year that "extends beyond 2040" in a boost for Arm's chip technology.

Separately, Apple has green-lit a new version of Tencent's (0700) WeChat app ahead of the iPhone 16's debut, buying more time for ongoing negotiations regarding changes the US company has demanded to China's most-used social media platform.

The approval is likely to quash speculation in China that a dispute between the US firm and China's largest company over app store fees could snowball and even bar WeChat from latest iPhones.

Their disagreement centers on Apple's insistence that it get a cut of potentially lucrative transactions that flow through WeChat's mini-games platform, a repository of popular casual titles created by thousands of indie developers.
