Only two of the top 10 environmental, social and governance measures adopted by the majority of Hong Kong enterprises are related to environmental protection, a survey by the Hong Kong Brand Development Council showed.
BDC analyzed the responses from 144 firms to learn about the current status and trends of ESG development in the city's business sector.
Among the top 10 most popular ESG programs, only "reducing energy" and "improving production" belonged to the category of environmental protection. The top four programs all belong to the category of social protection, with "implementing good personnel management" ranking first at 78.8 percent.
According to the survey, participating companies showed a "high on both sides and low in the middle" distribution in the coming year, with the highest proportion of resources going to environmental, at 41 percent on average, 24.5 percent to social, and 34 percent to governance.
