China's electric vehicle makers saw their sales extend a rally in May amid a price war, with BYD (1211) leading the pack.
BYD said it sold 331,817 units in May, up 38 percent year-on-year and 5.9 percent month-on-month. For the first five months of the year, BYD sold 1.27 million EVs, 26.8 percent higher than a year ago.
BYD produced 344,008 vehicles in May and a total of 1.29 million this year.
Other Chinese EV makers also saw their May deliveries increase.
Li Auto (2015) delivered 35,020 vehicles, 24 percent higher from one year ago and 35.8 percent more than a month ago. Li Auto also said it delivered more than 15,000 units of its L6 model since deliveries started on April 24, the fastest among its EV models.
Nio (9866) delivered a record 20,500 vehicles last month, up 234 percent year-on-year and 31.52 percent quarter-on-quarter.
It attributed the rising sales to the high computing capability of the 2024 models and greater demand for pure EVs.
Zeekr under Geely Automobile (0175) saw deliveries jump 115 percent year-on-year to a record 18,600 vehicles.
The US-listed EV maker delivered a total of 67,800 vehicles in the first five months of the year.
Xiaomi (1810), the newcomer in the Chinese EV market, delivered 8,646 SU7 cars in May, up 22 percent from a month ago, and over 15,000 since launching the model at the end of March.
XPeng's (9868) deliveries grew to 10,146 units, up 35 percent year-on-year and 8 percent month-on-month, but the gap between it and other key players widened.
