China's January-February government land sales revenue drops 25.2pc on year

China's government land sales revenue dropped 25.2 percent from a year earlier to 354.7 billion yuan (HK$404.08 billion) in January-February, 2026, data from the finance ministry showed on Thursday.

Revenue from government land sales by Chinese local governments was down 14.7 percent in 2025, falling for four consecutive years.

The country's prolonged property downturn continued to strain local government finances, which have historically relied heavily on selling land-use rights to developers as a key source of income.
