HK stocks concede gains, closing on Tuesday's low

Hong Kong stocks retreated on Tuesday, giving back gains from a previous brush with a near four-year high.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index closed at 25,524 points, down 304 points or 1.18 percent.

The China Enterprises Index fell 99 points or 1.07 percent to 9,148 points, while the Hang Seng Tech Index slipped 42 points or 0.73 percent to 5,782.

Turnover on the main board was HK$317.8 billion.

Pop Mart International (9992), scheduled to join the blue-chip index next month, hit a new peak, closing 2.69 percent higher at HK$335.40.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite Index on Tuesday closed at 3,868 points, down 15 points or 0.39 percent, after briefly hitting a new ten-year high. The Shenzhen Component Index once reached 12,561 points, marking a more than three-year high, and ended at 12,473 points, up 32 points or 0.26 percent.
