China's cabinet stresses sports' role in boosting domestic demand

China's cabinet on Friday said it wants to boost consumer demand for sports by increasing the supply of sports products and enriching sports events, state broadcaster CCTV reported, citing a meeting chaired by Premier Li Qiang.

The meeting also studied a separate equipment upgrade and consumer product trade-in scheme, which forms part of China's plan to boost domestic demand.

It pledged to "firmly crack down on behaviours of subsidy defraudation," CCTV reported.
