Some consumers have reported quality problems with Pop Mart International’s (9992) popular Labubu toys, including mismatched arms and legs, raising concerns amid the company’s rapid stock price rally this year.
On mainland China’s social media platform Xiaohongshu, many consumers have posted complaints about the new Labubu toy series launched in late April, citing issues such as visible thread seams, crooked heads, and mismatched limb lengths. Some even claimed the quality was worse than that of counterfeit products.
The official price for each blind box in the series is set at 99 yuan (HK$108.21), with official sales bookings currently scheduled through the end of September.
Labubu toys have taken the global market by storm, fueling a more than threefold surge in Pop Mart’s share price this year, which climbed from HK$91 to HK$278. However, the craze has drawn warnings from China’s state-run People’s Daily, which called for stricter regulation of blind boxes and collectible cards.
