Chinese budget coffee chain Luckin Coffee may add new stores in Central, after having opened 12 outlets in Hong Kong within half a year.
The Starbucks competitor said it will further expand its store network in core business districts including Central, to serve consumers a more convenient coffee experience.
It also announced that its SpongeBob-themed concept store will officially open at its Siu Sai Wan outlet from May 31 to June 29.
Its latest store opened on May 24 at Park Central in Tseung Kwan O.
Luckin officially entered the Hong Kong market last December and opened five outlets simultaneously across the city, with locations in Sheung Wan’s Des Voeux Road Central, Mira Place in Tsim Sha Tsui, Metro City Plaza in Tseung Kwan O, Mong Kok New Town Mall, and Shatin Centre.
Notably, its Mira Place outlet is located right next to a Starbucks store.
The brand has adopted an aggressive low-price strategy in mainland China, often offering steep discounts, with some drinks priced as low as 9.90 yuan (HK$10.77). In Hong Kong, Luckin is promoting a HK$15.90 first-order deal via its mobile app, according to the company's advertisements.
However, Luckin’s Hong Kong menu lists an Americano and Latte at HK$39, and its signature Coconut Milk Latte at HK$42 – matching Starbucks prices and charging far above its typical mainland pricing.
Luckin’s standard Americano and Latte are priced starting at 23 yuan and 29 yuan respectively in the mainland, making the Hong Kong versions 26 to 59 percent more expensive.
