Hong Kong travellers are increasingly prioritizing safety, convenience, and flexibility when planning their trips, according to the latest findings from Allianz Partners' Hong Kong Travel Index. The survey reveals that personal safety, extreme weather, and loss of travel documents rank among the top concerns, with the latter being a significantly higher worry for Hong Kong travellers compared to the APAC average.
According to Greg Plifka, Managing Director, Allianz Partners Hong Kong, "We're seeing Hong Kong travellers become increasingly risk-aware, particularly about document security which ranks higher here than the APAC average. That’s why we’ve strengthened our travel insurance solutions with comprehensive protection and innovative digital tools.” The company currently operates one of only two in-house 24/7 assistance platforms in Hong Kong, providing travellers with immediate support during emergencies.
Plifka also commented on the notable gap between Hong Kong travellers’ reliance on social media for trip planning and their low adoption of travel safety apps. To address this, Allianz Partners is expanding its digital ecosystem with the upcoming launch of Allyz, a global travel and safety platform. Allyz will serve as a one-stop hub for pre-trip planning, document storage, and real-time safety alerts. The platform also features instant flight-delay compensation and access to digital health services, all designed to integrate safety technology seamlessly into the travel experience.
Regarding the growing trend of family travel, which now represents over half of Hong Kong travellers, Plifka explained, "families need flexibility more than ever. To cater to this growing segment, our 'Cancel for Any Unforeseen Risks' benefit recognizes that modern families face unpredictable challenges, from schedule conflicts to pet emergencies.” This benefit protects travellers from unrecoverable travel fares and accommodation deposits due to unforeseen cancellations.
