Exchange Fund brings in $67.2b first-quarter income

The Exchange Fund, which backs the Hong Kong dollar, recorded HK$67.2 billion in investment income in the first quarter of this year, reversing a HK$20.3 billion loss in the previous quarter.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority disclosed the figures on Tuesday at the Legislative Council panel meeting for financial affairs.

The latest result marks an increase of nearly 8 percent from the same period a year ago.

The quarterly gain involves a profit of HK$40.6 billion from bonds and HK$16.4 billion from Hong Kong stocks, as well as a HK$2.8 billion loss from other equities, according to HKMA.
