To be awarded the Gold Prize in the ‘Non-profit Making and Charitable Organizations’ category against strong contenders is an extra-special source of pride and gratification, according to Irene M T Chan, Head of Public Affairs (Corporate & Charities Communications), The Hong Kong Jockey Club.
What is more inspiring, as Chan explains, is the theme of the Jockey Club’s 2021 annual report, “Racing Forward Together”, which builds on the previous year’s theme “Standing Strong Together” to reflect the Club’s resilience in the face of the pandemic and its dedication to working relentlessly for the betterment of Hong Kong.
“As the pandemic situation evolved, the emphasis switched to progress and hope for the future (Racing Forward), with the Club staunchly standing by the community to which it is committed (Together),” continues Chan.
In addition to its Charities Trust’s regular charity donations of HK$4.5 billion during the reporting period, the Club generated a record HK$24.9 billion in betting duty, profits tax and Lotteries Fund contributions to the community, living up to its purpose of acting continuously for the betterment of our society.
On the report’s graphic design, Chan points out that the key reoccurring design element resembles an arrow that echoes the theme of Racing Forward. “In particular, the cover photo depicts home-grown jockey Vincent Ho with champion horse Golden Sixty, whose fighting spirit on the racetrack has inspired many Hongkongers amid the gloom of the pandemic when live entertainment was scarce,” she enthuses.
