Hong Kong’s film The Last Dance has been selected by the Federation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong to represent the city in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.
Directed and produced by Anselm Chan Mou-yin, the film stars Dayo Wong Tze-wah, Michael Hui Koon-man, Michelle Wai Sze-nga, and Chu Pak-hong. The story explores Hong Kong’s funeral industry, offering a poignant reflection on life and death.
The Last Dance has won critical acclaim and box office success, grossing more than HK$170 million in Hong Kong and Macau—the highest for any Chinese-language film in the region.
Chan thanked audiences and the industry for their support, calling the nomination a collective achievement. Lead actress Wai described the honor as “beyond imagination,” while veteran actor Wong emphasized how the film’s themes embody Hong Kong’s cultural identity and traditions.
