Christian Alliance International School (CAIS), soon approaching its 10th year, has steadily grown from its establishment in 2017 into one of the city’s most respected international schools.
Today, the non-profit institution serves more than 1,700 students representing over 33 nationalities. With a mission to cultivate students with knowledge, skills, integrity, and discernment, CAIS has earned a reputation for excellence in both academics and holistic education.
At the helm is Head of School Daniel Schick, who is proud to see the school’s remarkable transformation into a vibrant community of learners, leaders, and global citizens.
A Legacy of Academic Excellence
In recent years, CAIS has celebrated outstanding achievements that underscore its rigorous academic standards. In 2025, students achieved outstanding results, marking new milestones: a 100% pass rate in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, including two perfect scores, and an average score of 37.3 points. The school has also seen a dramatic increase in students pursuing Advanced Placement (AP) exams, with participation more than doubling from the previous year.
But Schick emphasizes that these academic triumphs are only part of the story. “Academic results are the fruits of a good education system,” he says. “But if you only look at academics, you miss out on the breadth and variety of what makes this community so special.”
Indeed, CAIS students have also excelled in the arts, leadership, sports, and service. From a choir victory at Vienna’s Musikverein Wien—where the school won First Place with Outstanding Success at the Summa Cum Laude Festival—to Math Olympiad success in Tokyo, the school’s achievements showcase a culture that values curiosity, creativity, and character alongside academic rigor.
Beyond the Classroom: Stories of Growth
One of the school’s proudest recent moments came when over 40 choir students traveled to Austria during the summer. For Schick, the victory itself was less important than the spirit behind it: “What made me most proud was the way the opportunity came about. Students were eager, parents and teachers partnered together, and in the end, our students shared Hong Kong culture with the world.”
It is this collaborative spirit—students, parents, and teachers working together—that Schick believes defines the CAIS community.
Developing Leaders from an Early Age
Leadership development is at the core of CAIS’s philosophy. From primary school, students participate in programs like Leader in Me and the Seven Habits of Happy Kids, which instill the belief that leadership is for all, not just a select few. By middle school, leadership courses nurture confidence, communication skills, and self-esteem. In high school, students take on ambassador roles, lead clubs, and even sit on parent councils.
“Our students gain a mature sense of agency and voice,” Schick explains. “They don’t just learn about leadership—they practice it.” The school’s 45 student-led clubs are a testament to this culture, ranging from sports and STEM to social justice initiatives that partner with NGOs across Hong Kong.
Three Pathways, One Vision
Recognizing that no two learners are the same, CAIS offers three academic pathways: the Alberta (Canada) curriculum, the IB Diploma Programme, and Advanced Placement courses. This flexibility ensures that students can pursue a path aligned with their strengths, aspirations, and future plans. The school has also earned Tier 1 accreditation from Alberta Education, its highest recognition of excellence.
“Children are unique, and learning should not be one-size-fits-all,” Schick says. “Our responsibility is to provide diverse opportunities while working closely with families to map out a pathway for each child’s success.”
Living Out Core Values
At the heart of CAIS are its five core values: wisdom, integrity, love, service, and community. Schick describes these as the school’s “head, heart, and hands” approach: intellectual engagement, character formation, and action. Students are encouraged not only to excel academically but also to apply their learning in meaningful service.
The school’s annual Thanksgiving Carnival is one example, where high school students ran their own booths—an act of service that brought joy to younger peers and parents alike. More than one-third of CAIS student clubs also focus directly on service, tackling issues such as food waste, social justice, and children’s welfare.
“This is where our students shine,” Schick says. “They don’t just learn values; they live them.”
Preparing for the Future
In a world of rapid technological change and global challenges, CAIS aims to equip its students with what Schick calls “resume virtues and eulogy virtues.” Academic achievements matter, but so does character.
He draws an analogy between thermometers and thermostats: “A thermometer reflects its environment, but a thermostat sets the temperature. We want our students to be thermostats—to set the standard wherever they go.”
A Community with a Mission
With its campus now fully complete, CAIS is focused on deepening its roots while extending its impact. “We are on a mission of planting trees,” Schick reflects. “One generation plants a tree so the next can enjoy its shade. Our vision is that CAIS graduates will be a blessing—to Hong Kong, to the world, and to Christ.”
At its core, CAIS remains steadfast in its mission: to cultivate learners who grow in love for God and service to humanity. As Schick concludes, “Our theme this year is ‘Service: Servant Heart, Serving Hands.’ It’s not just something we talk about—it’s something our students do. And that’s what excites me most about the future of CAIS.”
