A high-speed collision involving a seven-seater vehicle with three regional license plates, another multi-purpose vehicle, and a bus in Macau on Wednesday evening left four people injured, with initial investigations pointing to dangerous overtaking and speeding.
The accident occurred around 7pm on Avenida da Amizade. Online footage shows a white seven-seater speeding and overtaking dangerously before losing control at a bend, crashing through central water-filled barriers and spraying water. The vehicle then crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a black multi-purpose vehicle. The impact pushed the black vehicle into a passing bus.
All four injured are Macau locals. The male driver of the black multi-purpose vehicle sustained a fractured right thigh and was trapped inside his vehicle, requiring firefighters to use extrication tools to free him before being taken to hospital. The male bus driver, a female bus passenger, and the male driver of the white seven-seater all suffered chest injuries and were also hospitalized. All were conscious.
Scene photos show the white seven-seater, believed to be displaying Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau license plates and carrying cargo, severely damaged. The bus's windscreen was shattered, with debris scattered across the road.
Macau's Public Security Police confirmed the white multi-purpose vehicle driver passed a breathalyzer test. Preliminary investigations indicate the crash was caused by illegal overtaking and speeding at the bend. The driver will face charges.
