Chinese President Xi Jinping met with US President Donald Trump on Thursday, expressing readiness to continue working together to build a solid foundation for bilateral ties, according to Xinhua.
During their meeting, President Xi stated that China-US relations have remained stable overall under their joint guidance. "China and the United States should be partners and friends. That is what history has taught us and what reality needs," he said.
Xi acknowledged that given different national conditions, the two leading economies don't always see eye to eye and occasional frictions are normal. "You and I are at the helm of China-US relations," Xi told Trump. "We should stay the right course and ensure the steady sailing forward of the giant ship of China-US relations."
The Chinese president highlighted China's economic performance, noting 5.2 percent growth in the first three quarters and 4 percent expansion in goods trade. He described the Chinese economy as "a vast ocean, big, resilient and promising."

Xi revealed that economic and trade teams from both countries had reached consensus on solving various issues and should finalize follow-up steps soon. He emphasized that business relations should serve as "the anchor and driving force for China-US relations, not a stumbling block."
President Trump expressed honor in meeting with Xi, calling China a great country and praising the Chinese leader as a well-respected great leader. "The United States and China have always had a fantastic relationship, and it will be even better," Trump said.
Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in economic, trade, energy and other fields while encouraging more people-to-people exchanges. They will maintain regular interactions, with Trump expecting to visit China early next year and inviting Xi to visit the United States.
The presidents also pledged support for each other's hosting of international summits, with China preparing for APEC 2026 and the United States hosting next year's G20 summit.
