Guangzhou Metro has launched a new “Tap to Ride” payment service across all stations, allowing overseas visitors, including travelers from Hong Kong, to use international bank cards such as Mastercard, American Express, Visa, and JCB for direct entry.
Passengers no longer need to purchase tickets in advance or download apps, as they can simply tap their cards at gates marked with the logos of participating card networks.
Signs in both Chinese and English have been placed at selected stations to guide users, while the card readers themselves display the relevant symbols for clarity.
A Hong Kong resident said the service is especially convenient for those who already hold international cards, noting that the ability to bypass ticket purchases or app downloads will make cross-border travel easier.
She added that she hopes the system will expand to other mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area, helping to create a more seamless travel experience for residents and visitors alike.
