Day 3 of the Singapore Badminton Open on Thursday saw Hong Kong players Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet progress to the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles event.
The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalists, fourth-seeded in the tournament, defeated Indonesian duo Hafiz Faizal and Serena Kani in straight sets (21-16, 21-10). They will face seventh-seeded Malaysian duo Goh Soon-huat and Lai Shevon-jemie on Friday.
Meanwhile, another Hong Kong mixed doubles pair, Yoyo Ng Tsz-yau and Reginald Lee Chun-hei, bowed out of the Singapore tournament in their round of 16 match after losing 2-0 (13-21, 7-21) in 25 minutes against Malaysian duo Chen Tang-jie and Valeree Siow.
In the men’s singles, Lee Cheuk-yiu suffered a defeat against Malaysia’s Ng Tsz-yong in straight sets (15-21, 13-21). Ng Tsz-yong on Wednesday defeated Lee’s Hong Kong teammate, Angus Ng Ka-long in straight sets.
