Former Principal Assistant Secretary of the Development Bureau Fiona Chau Suet-mui assumed office as the new Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, pledging to promote Hong Kong’s core strengths and international competitiveness.

Succeeding the outgoing Director-General Gilford Law Sun-on, Chau will be responsible for promoting the city’s bilateral relations with the UK and eight other countries — Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Russia, and Sweden.
Chau expressed her eagerness to promote the city’s core strengths, international competitiveness, vast business potential and cultural diversity “with a view to strengthening the economic, commercial and cultural ties between Hong Kong and the nine countries under the purview of the office.”
Chau joined the government in 1989 and has served in various bureaux and departments, including the Trade and Industry Department, the HKETO in Washington DC, the Office of the HKSAR Government in Beijing, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau.
