The security guard of Chui Yu Road Rest Garden reported to the police at around 4 pm on Sunday (Feb 23) after spotting some blue pills laying on the ground, which were subsequently collected by officers for examinations.
It was learned that there were more than 100 pills found in the park.
The security guard mentioned that after the Lunar New Year, he frequently discovered what he believed to be animal poison in the park. He suspected that the dogs and cats were specifically targeted.
The case has been listed as animal cruelty and is being handled by the Mong Kok District investigation team.
A dog owner surnamed Wong said he had been walking his pet in the park for over a year and noticed pills were scattered as early as the second day of the Lunar New Year.
He mentioned that he is extremely cautious when walking his dog and never lets it off the leash, fearing that his pet might fall victim to poisoning.
The police said there have not been reports of animals being poisoned in the area recently.
