The burglary occurred on February 10 when a truck parked at a car park on Hoi Bun Road in Kwun Tong was broken into, resulting in the theft of five boxes containing smart lock components.
Following a thorough investigation and review of security footage, authorities identified three suspects.
On February 18 and 19, two of the suspects were arrested in Lo Wu and Sha Tin, respectively. The police also recovered stolen items worth around HK$700,000.
The arrested individuals are a 39-year-old man surnamed Lee, who claimed to be a driver, and a 30-year-old man surnamed Koon, who claimed to be unemployed.
Both are being held in police custody and are expected to be charged and appear in Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (Feb 21).
A police spokesperson emphasized the importance of vehicle security, advising motorists to lock their doors and windows, avoid leaving valuables in their cars, and consider using car cameras. For added security, delivery companies should consider having personnel monitor valuable cargo.
The spokesperson also noted that the use of dashcams in nearby vehicles and security cameras in crime-prone areas played a crucial role in solving this case. Since the implementation of this surveillance system in late 2024, it has aided in resolving 122 cases, including murder, robbery, and burglary.
Furthermore, police analysis indicates a significant reduction in street crimes since the surveillance system was installed, underscoring its effectiveness in deterring criminal activity.
