Lam said he will focus on multi-stop travel involving Hong Kong, China, and Macau when his tenure begins in April to encourage visitors to stay longer and stimulate tourism in the region.
Lam raised the challenges the tourism industry faced, including high flight costs and the impact of a strengthening Hong Kong dollar. He has discussed with Macau officials the potential for joint tourism promotions to enhance the appeal of both SARs.
In addition to promoting regional tourism, Lam aims to link major events in Hong Kong to attract more visitors. Proposals include scheduling the LIV Golf tournament alongside the annual International Rugby Sevens and possibly reintroducing individual sports events after this year's National Games.
Regarding the upcoming 2025 National Two Sessions in Beijing, Lam, also a standing committee member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, will propose policies to support the film and television industry within the Greater Bay Area.
He aims to elevate the "Hong Kong International Film Festival" to become one of the world's top film festivals and to create a significant platform for domestic films.
Lam will urge the central government to introduce supportive policies for Hong Kong film and television workers, including easing career development thresholds in the mainland, deepening industry cooperation, and utilizing co-production advantages.
He also suggested regularly hosting film exchange events, granting national treatment to the Hong Kong film industry, and simplifying the approval process for films.
