A video of the act was shared online lately, which saw two plainclothes officers of the Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office writing the bus captain a citation at the bus terminal.
The videographer, possibly another bus captain, can be heard reminding others not to smoke inside the bus station at Hong Kong Station.
“Brothers, do not smoke at the Hong Kong Station [bus terminal], one of our brothers has been hit [by the fine]!” The video heard.
The video saw the bus captain handing over his HKID card to one of the officers issuing the citation.
Under the Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance, any person who commits an act of smoking in statutory no-smoking areas or in public transport carriers will be liable to a fixed penalty of HK$1,500 without prior warning.
There are currently 260 public transportation facilities and 14 bus interchanges designated as no-smoking areas.
