Writing in its official WeChat account [on Saturday], the port office estimated the peak of border crossings will be between Friday and Sunday. (Jan 31 to Feb 2)
The five border land crossings – Luohu, Futian, Shenzhen Bay, West Kowloon High-Speed Rail Station and Huanggang – may hit a daily passenger flow of between 50,000 and 200,000.
Luohu port may even see its average peak to reach 220,000 between Wednesday and Sunday, and may even exceed 240,000, the office added.
To cope with the peak of inbound and outbound passenger flow, staff will be deployed flexibly, and additional immigration clearance counters and passageways may be opened, as well as more security guards deployed to maintain order at customs clearance.
The office has also been maintaining close communication with the Hong Kong Immigration Department and border control-related authorities, to keep a close watch on the passenger flow and implement crowd control measures in time to ensure a smooth customs clearance.
