A total of 36.67 million visitors were reported in the first ten months of 2024, seeing a 37 percent increase compared to last year, according to Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB).
Notably, travelers from Southeast Asia exceeded 2.3 million, reaching approximately 95 percent of pre-pandemic levels, making it one of the fastest recovering markets.
Hong Kong celebrated the arrival of its millionth visitor from the Philippines this year last Friday (Nov 29), surpassing the previous record of 930,000 set in 2018 and achieving a new all-time high.
Southeast Asian visitors are predominantly younger, staying an average of 3.4 nights and spending around HK$7,100 per person, the Departing Visitor Survey by the HKTB revealed.
Most popular destinations among these travelers include theme parks, Temple Street, and the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront.
HKTB executive director Dane Cheng Ting-yat is optimistic about the significant increase in international visitors, particularly from Southeast Asia. He also revealed promotion plans, hoping to attract more tourists with the Hong Kong WinterFest event during the festive season.
