The councilors of the 7th term District Councils took the oaths and assumed office on Monday (Jan 1), with Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu outlining four requirements for them to strengthen district governance and to build a better Hong Kong together.
The oath-taking ceremony was held this morning at the Conference Hall of the Central Government Offices.
Lee congratulated the district councilors and stressed that the members of the District Councils have to uphold the Basic Law and bear allegiance to the HKSAR, along with serving as a connection to ensure effective communication between the government and the people.
He also asked the councilors to implement the principle of "patriots administering Hong Kong" at the district governance level and upholding the vital duty of safeguarding national security.
The Hong Kong leader noted that the councilors must adopt a people-oriented approach to bring tangible improvements to the community and facilitate the government in implementing its district policies.
